What Can I Do With A Degree In Forensic Science?



The Forensic Science Department offers four exclusive Honour programs, all leading to a Bachelor of Science degree.  Students may take a Science Single Concentration, or one of three Combined Specializations including Anthropology, Psychology, and Analytical Chemistry and Instrumentation.   The curriculum includes lectures from police personal and visits to forensic agencies.  Students also have the option of thesis level research and/or internships.  A police record check is required.  Please see the department link below for further information on programs, courses, and admission.

Skills developed:

  • Multidisciplinary knowledge (e.g. Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, & Biology)
  • Excellent communication skills; technical writing, interpersonal, and presentation
  • Understanding of the law and criminal justice system
  • Familiarity with crime scene procedures and the handling of evidence
  • Understanding of principles and practices of forensic science laboratories
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Outstanding observational skills
Areas of employment

A significant portion of students from this program pursue graduate studies in areas like biochemistry, human genetics, forensic anthropology, toxicology, clinical psychology, and more.  Many have gone on to medical school, law school, and dental school.  Following completion of the program students have found careers as forensic technicians, in policing, teaching, and more.
