
The History department offers three and four year Bachelor of Arts degrees, either of which may be taken through single or combined programs. However, combined programs must be established in consultation with the two departments concerned. Specific areas of concentration are available for the four year honours degree. A Masters program with three areas of potential specialization is also available. Please see the department link below for further information on programs and course descriptions.

Areas of employment
History graduates can anticipate careers in entry level positions of government, business, journalism, education, and archival management. Laurentian graduates have found careers as teachers, professors, librarians, social workers, journalists, and more. In Canada roughly 20% of graduates are employed as secondary and elementary school teachers and counselors.

Work prospects
Graduates of the Humanities at Laurentian average an 86% employment rate six months after entry into the work force. Nationwide the average yearly earnings for those with a History degree is approximately $31,300. However salaries vary significantly according to area of specialization, location, and general work experience. Approximately 84% of graduates claim job satisfaction, while 72% would choose to make the same educational choice again.
Competition among new graduates is expected to be average with the majority of competition coming from graduates in Library and Records Science, Teaching, and Political Science.
