What Can I Do With A Degree In Philosophy?



The Philosophy program is collaboration between Laurentian University and the University of Sudbury.  The department offers a three or four year Bachelor of Arts degree.  The three year program is available as a single or combined concentration; while the four year program as a single or combined specialization.  Areas of study are broad and include philosophical discourse on ethics, education, reason, political thought, law and much more.  Some courses are offered in French.  Please see the department links below for further program information and course details.

Areas of employment

Graduates of the Philosophy program can expect employment in areas like social services, religion, education, ethics, and law.  The exceptional communication and critical thinking abilities fostered in the program prepare students for careers in administration, management, human resources, research, and writing. Additional careers are available in areas like counseling, public relations, advocacy, and public policy.

Philosophy undergraduates qualify for employment in entry level positions in business, government, and the non profit sector. Graduate studies are necessary for careers in law, counseling, ethics, and related areas. A Ph.D. is generally required for teaching at the university or college level Students should consider combining their degree with other disciplines to increase their marketability following graduation.  Skills in computers, statistics, and business are especially valuable contributions to a Philosophy degree.
