What Can I Do With A Degree In Religious Studies?



The Joint Department of Religious Studies offers three and four year Bachelor of Arts programs in both French and English.  The three year program is available through distance education and may be taken as a single or combined concentration.  The four year honours degree is offered as a single or combined specialization.  Courses cover three broad areas of Religious studies: The Judaeo-Christian Tradition, Religions of the World, and Religion and Modern Culture.  Please see department link below for further information on programs and courses.

Areas of employment

Graduates qualify for employment in business and government in areas like social services, health, communications, ministries, and education.  In Canada many graduates find employment as social workers and clergy.  Laurentian students tend to complement their degree with nursing or education and go on to become registered nurses, teachers, and councilors.

Work prospects

In Canada the average rate of employment for Religious Studies undergraduates is 94% two years after entry into the work force.  The average yearly earnings for those with this degree is approximately $33,100.  However pay varies greatly with location, specialization, and level of experience.  Job satisfaction among graduates is roughly 72%, while 94% would choose to make the same educational choice again.

Work prospects are fair.  Competition among new graduates is expected to be average with a majority of job openings occurring in Social Work, Counseling, and Clergy.
