What Can I Do With A Graduate Diploma In Science Communication?



Laurentian University and Science North offer a one year program leading to a Science Communication Graduate Diploma.  Students learn how to effectively communicate science to the public through the study of theory and practical experience.  Courses cover subjects such as “Understanding Audiences”, “Design Theory in Science Communication”, and “Science Communication Practice”.  Students will be involved in internet, radio, and television projects as well as with live shows and exhibits.  Generally a science background is necessary for entry.  Students will have the opportunity for a placement contract for a project within the community.  The program is offered in English however, some courses and projects are available in French.  Please see the Science Communication website for further information.

  • Communication skills suited for non-science audiences (Public & In-house)
  • Experience with mass communications and related multimedia software
  • Comfort and expertise in presentation to live audiences

  • Ability to integrate communication theory with practice
Areas of employment

The program is for those considering a career in areas such as administration, science journalism, consulting, teaching, and more.  Although the program is intentionally small and began in 2005, graduates of the program have found careers as staff scientists, managers at science centers, communication officers, teachers, and more. A high proportion of graduates have found work related to the environment.
