The Vice-President, Academic and Provost’s Office is responsible for the advancement of the academic mission of the University. As such, the portfolio includes all the Faculties of the University and the various academic departments and programs for which they are responsible.
At the same time the Provost’s office has responsibility for the broad range of collaborations Laurentian University has with colleges, federated and affiliated institutions, which offer access to university education across Ontario, using face to face instruction as well as leading-edge distance learning.
Given the tricultural focus of Laurentian University an essential part of the Provost’s Office is the Associate Vice-President Indigenous Programs who brings extra strength to our tricultural mission at Laurentian.
Laurentian has been committed to undergraduate education since its inception almost 50 years ago. Excellence in Learning at Laurentian is exemplified by the commitment of our professors to teaching and by our successful Learning Commons, an entry point for student learning beyond the classroom, located within the Desmarais Library and extended to further satellite sites on our campuses.
The year 2010 is our 50th anniversary. During the year we will celebrate our many achievements which includes the addition of six new doctoral programs and the launch of the Northern Ontario Medical School that recently graduated its first class. Taken together, our undergraduate and graduate programmes and our growing research productivity position Laurentian as a comprehensive university, competent to meet the demands of a global economy based on knowledge creation, knowledge integration and new ideas.
