Biography

Dr. Christine Sansalone is an associate professor in the English Literature, Media and Writing Program at Laurentian University.  Christine Sansalone graduated with a PhD in Italian literature from the University of Toronto in 2005 with a thesis on the image of women in late 19th – early 20th century Italian theater. She is currently the president of the Association of Italian Canadian Writers (AICW) and the president of the Società Caruso of Sudbury. As well as teaching courses on food history, theater history and theater practice at Laurentian University, Christine is also the co-director of the student theater group Le Maschere Laurenziane, once housed by the Italian program at Laurentian University and now housed by the Società Caruso. She was the editor of three issues of the journal Italian Canadiana (2017, 2018, 2019) and of the volume A Journey Through Knowledge published by Franco Cesati Editore (2020). Together with her colleague Dr. Diana Iuele-Colilli she has published eight plays (published by Soileil Publishing and Legas Publishing) dedicated to the Italian diaspora in Sudbury. Christine has also published articles on second language acquisition, theater history, the Italian Canadian internment during WWII, cinema and literature.
